ABSTRACT

At first, a four-point bending beam with FBG sensors embedded was designed to evaluate the coordinated working performance or interaction between sensor and HMA material in laboratory, as the high-modulus protective material wrapping the fiber may change

the strain distribution of pavement material. Then, details of instrumentation on Beijing Liuhuan expressway, together with truck components and testing conditions, are presented in the paper. Finally, general observations from the strain responses measured in situ are discussed, followed with the description of the effects of loading speeds and magnitudes.
