ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses the soft template strategies for preparing various metal oxide nanocages. Nanocages, defined as nanoscale architectures composed of clear inner cavities and outer shells. The chapter discusses the representative synthetic strategies for monometallic oxide nanocages and mixed metal oxide nanocages are also comprehensively presented. The order to better meet the application requirements of nanomaterials, many mixed metal oxide nanocages have been synthesized mainly through the hard and self-templating strategies. The hard templating strategy is still a classical approach for the synthesis of mixed metal oxide nanocages. The chapter focuses on the developments in the various synthetic methods and potential applications of metal hydroxide and oxide nanocages, emphasizing the progress made in recent years. Monometallic hydroxide nanocages, as its name suggests, contain only one metal element in the hydroxides. The mixed metal hydroxide nanocages contain two or more metal elements in the hydroxides.
