ABSTRACT

A 10-year-old male presents to the emergency room because of painful oral lesions. He has been complaining of myalgias, decreased energy, and upper respiratory symptoms for the last 3 days. The mouth lesions appeared this morning. The lesions have worsened throughout the day. He also has been having fevers for the last 2 days to a maximum of 101°F. He had normal oral intake until today due to pain but does have normal urine output. He has not had any diarrhea or vomiting. There are no other rashes on his body. No one else at school or home has a similar rash. There are no new contacts or exposures. He is otherwise healthy, but his mom does mention that he was treated with trimethoprim/sulfamethoxazole for a UTI 2 months ago.
