ABSTRACT

A 3-year-old female with a complex medical history presents to the emergency room because of a white object that her mom noticed in her vagina while changing her today. Mom states that there has not been any change in her urine or stool, and there is no blood. Mom believes that there may have been clear drainage from the object at one point but she is not sure. Mom states that she does not believe that the patient would or could put anything there. The patient has not had any fevers, increased fussiness, vomiting, or upper respiratory symptoms. She has been tolerating her G-tube feeds well and there is no change in her baseline mental status. The patient does have a past medical history of being born at 24-weeks gestational age, cerebral palsy, tracheostomy, G-tube–dependent feeds, and hydrocephalus status post ventriculoperitoneal (VP) shunt placement. The shunt has never been revised.
