ABSTRACT

A father brings his 12-year-old daughter to the emergency department because she has had difficulty moving the left side of her face for the past 24 hours. The patient has had liquid dribbling out of the side of her mouth when she drinks and her left eye has felt dry. The patient denies any other neurologic changes or any trauma. Father reports that the patient had a cold a couple of weeks ago, but that she has improved. She also denies any drug use or recent travel. This is the first time the patient has displayed these symptoms.
