ABSTRACT

The parents of a 12-month-old male bring him to the emergency department because of swelling in the right wrist. The parents noticed the swelling a couple of days ago, but it has not resolved, so they brought the patient in for evaluation. The parents deny any trauma and state that the patient has otherwise been acting normally. The patient was exclusively breastfed until 6 months but now also takes table foods. He does not take any daily vitamins. The patient has been urinating normally, no fevers reported, no vomiting or diarrhea, and the patient is in the 20th percentile for weight and 5th percentile for height. The patient is cruising, but not yet walking without support. Patient is otherwise meeting his developmental milestones. The patient was born at 34 weeks, but the birth history is otherwise unremarkable. The patient has missed several appointments with his pediatrician because of transportation problems.
