ABSTRACT

Drawing upon the actor–partner interdependence model (APIM), spillover and crossover effects among psychological capital, work–life balance (WLB) perception, and life satisfaction were examined among dual-working couples in India. Matched data were collected from 213 dual-working Indian couples. The APIM_SEM app was used to analyze the dyadic data. The results of APIM_SEM analysis show the following: (1) psychological capital positively predicts the WLB, and enhanced WLB leads to increased life satisfaction of husbands as well as their wives (spillover effects); and (2) crossover of psychological capital on WLB was significant for husband to wife, but insignificant for wife to husband. Crossover of WLB on life satisfaction was found significant for wife to husband but not for husband to wife. To the best of authors’ knowledge, this is the first attempt to understand the crossover effects among dual-working couples in India. This study suggests that employers should adequately address work–life issues of employees, because these issues impact not only their well-being but also their partners’ well-being at home.
