ABSTRACT

The study examined facets of social support (tangible, appraisal, and belonging) and two dimensions of emotion regulation strategy (cognitive reappraisal and expressive suppression) as predictors of well-being among 375 participants in India. Although there is overlap across these phenomena, previous research has not examined them together among Indian population. The participants completed emotion regulation questionnaire, interpersonal support evaluation list, and brief intervention of thriving scale. The results of the present study showed that only belongingness support and cognitive reappraisal were found to be significant predictors of well-being. This indicates that belongingness support and cognitive reappraisal play significant role in an individual’s well-being. The study has notably highlighted the importance of emotional regulation along with social support in the well-being of an individual.
