ABSTRACT

Metallic nanoparticles present ubiquitous applications in diverse disciplines, owing to their inimitable physicochemical properties. From the development of next-generation antibiotics, biosensors, and theragnostic to the designing of smart materials, renewable energy devices, and systems, metallic nanoparticles pose a strong candidature as the most exploited material in the contemporary era. Importantly, the biological activity of metallic nanoparticles has prompted effective solutions to the physiological complexities related to drug resistance, metabolite monitoring, targeted drug delivery, and biological event imaging. The nano-size of metallic nanoparticles facilitate their cellular transit and interactions with cellular bio-macromolecules. In addition, the conjugation of metallic nanoparticles with biomolecules presents exciting applications in biotechnology and molecular medicine. In this chapter, we epigrammatically present the current perspectives of metallic nanoparticles at the nano-biointerface.
