ABSTRACT

Nanocrystalline metal oxide semiconductor is a key research area for the past few decades due to its remarkable electrical, electronic, and optical properties. It has shown excellent performance in the area of gas-sensing due to its high surface-to-volume ratio. Among different toxic gases, VOCs are found to have adverse effects on human lives. They can cause dizziness, nausea, and heart problems in case of prolonged exposure. Therefore, the detection of VOCs even at the sub-ppm level is essential. Packaging of sensors is another critical task as they need direct access to the environment. The most harmful agent is moisture, and so it would be better if the device is hermetically sealed, but that is truly not possible. Moreover, literature on this topic is scarce. There is no unique packaging technique depending on the environment, the package is specially designed as per the requirement, using metal interconnects. Different molding technologies have been covered in this chapter along with basic theory of VOC-sensing.
