ABSTRACT

This chapter introduces the reader to the fundamental concepts of magnetic materials that underpin the science and engineering of magnetic particles for biomedical applications. Given the very interdisciplinary nature of the field, the chapter is intended to be read by those outside of the discipline of physics with a view to introducing them to the concepts and terms that they will come across during their research into the applications of magnetic particles in biomedical science and engineering. Equations and mathematics have been kept to a minimum. Diagrams have been used wherever possible to illustrate the concepts being introduced.
