ABSTRACT

This chapter looks at the variety of Earth observation and associated geospatial data and services that provide the foundation for decisions. A variety of examples and use of such data are provided. Topics addressed include: space-based data; in situ data, including data from the perspective of national mapping agencies; and human-related geospatial data. Discussions include data quantity, quality, types, resolution, and scale; abundance of data and archives; typology of data supplied; and typology of services supplied.
