ABSTRACT

Quality Assurance is a part of quality management relating to ensuring that examinations at the clinic fulfil all quality related requirements. One of the CT physicist’s primary tasks at a radiology clinic is also to support it with knowledge about the dosimetric consequences from adjustments of different scanner options. This chapter discusses how MATLAB can be used to analyze CT images of various test objects. Pixel values are analyzed through the application of region-of-interests and several methods for finding specific objects in images are shown. A medical physicist working in radiology will come across many such image analysis tasks. The analysis often consists of placing a region-of-interest over an image and applying a statistical analysis of the pixel values within the region, typically acquiring the mean and standard deviation.
