ABSTRACT

Teaching and learning mathematics in an online format is more challenging due to the limitation of the online learning environment. Mathematics instructors who teach both on-campus and online courses may find it difficult and challenging to apply the same teaching strategies and learning activities that can be used in face-to-face classroom to online courses. However, there are various Open Educational Resources (OER), which can be utilized to make teaching online mathematics method courses more effective and interactive. OERs range from textbooks to curricula, syllabi, lecture notes, assignments, tests, projects, audio, video, animation, technological tools, and software packages. Virtual manipulatives, mathematical software, mathematics teaching videos, and mathematical apps are some examples of OER, which can be integrated in online courses. Various strategies and techniques can be employed to incorporate OER in online mathematics method courses. This chapter is aimed to provide some ideas and insights as how to utilize OER in method courses to make online courses effective and interactive. Furthermore, some of the strategies on how to integrate OER in online mathematics method course will be explained.
