ABSTRACT

John Stewart Bell was born in Belfast in 1928, and was brought up and educated in that city, but worked at Harwell and Malvern in England, and then from 1960 at CERN, the Centre for European Nuclear Research in Geneva, until his untimely death in 1990. He was employed to carry out research in accelerator and elementary particle physics, and produced excellent work, some of it of the highest importance, in these areas.
