ABSTRACT
Friction stir welding (FSW), since its invention by TWI in 1991, has grown rapidly into a preferred method of welding many lighter materials such as magnesium and aluminum alloys [1,2]. In this innovative process, a pin and shoulder configuration are rotated and plunged into a work piece at the joint line, the pin then traverses the joint forming the bond (see Figure 9.1). The
