ABSTRACT

Carbon-based electronics can be separated in two categories: že ¢rst category is the “plastic electronics,” which is usually based on layers of oligomers or polymers, and carrier transport is via hopping between the localized electronic states situated on adjacent molecules. že second category is based on sp2 conjugated pure carbon, such as fullerenes (“buckyballs”), nanotubes, graphite and, last but not least, graphene. že electronic states are in principle extended, but depending on the geometry (quantum) con¢nement can yield 0D, 1D, 2D, or 3D systems.
