ABSTRACT

This cognitive walkthrough of a departure scenario explores human factors considerations concerned with the integration of several NextGen concepts relevant to Collaborative Air Traffic Management (CATM) and airport surface management, including flexible airspace management, collaborative routing, translation of weather data into traffic management and flight operations decisions and airport surface departure management. These human factors considerations include strategies for distributing work (roles and responsibilities), supporting efficient and effective interactions (coordination vs. collaboration), information exchange requirements, communication requirements (voice vs. digital, potentially including graphics), the design of decision support tools and the incorporation of safety nets.
