ABSTRACT

The interest in extracting energy from renewable resources has been growing in the last years, thus bringing to the development of a wide range of wave energy converters, most of which are intended to be installed in relatively shallow water. This characteristic of the operational site brings the attention on the necessity to have some knowledge of the spectrum in shallow water, in order to optimize the power take off and to better design both the structure and the mooring system of the device. In fact the existing sea spectra have been derived for deep water, however the waves modify their characteristics as they approach shallow water.
