ABSTRACT

Farmers and scientists have long searched for cropping systems that require less tillage. Economic benefits of less tillage include less machinery and fuel use, while biological benefits are associated with soil and water conservation. The soil cover in no-till systems is important for water conservation (Jalota and Prihar, 1998) and weed suppression (Teasdale et al., 2012). However, the lack of tillage also increases the potential for weeds, especially in organic systems.
