ABSTRACT

Polychlorinated dibenzodioxins (PSDDs), polychlorinated dibenzofurans (PCDFs) and polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) constitute a group of persistent environmental chemicals known as the ‘dioxins’ and these are emergent especially in imperfect combustion of chlorine materials. A number of dioxin or furan congeners, as well as co-planner PCBs (Co-PCBs) have been included as the toxic dioxins. The toxic impacts of dioxins on living organism are complicated and variously dependent on assortment, isomeric form and congeners, therefore TEQ (toxic equivalent) is converted by TEF (toxic equivalency factors) to calculation, consideration and discussion. The dioxins are of concern due to their carcinogenic and teratogenic potential on humans and background exposure may occur through the diet, skin absorption and aspiration.
