ABSTRACT
To explore contemporary and historical approaches to training for physical theatres is
to encounter a diverse range of practices, philosophical positions and cultural contexts.
Unsurprisingly, to enquire into regimes of training and preparation for both the making
and performing of physical theatres leads us into the same messy territories of tension,
hybridity, plurality, semantics and historical legacy as when examining the work itself.
