ABSTRACT

This chapter is based on the experiences of running a Higher Education Funding Council for England-funded special initiative project. The ultimate outcome is the production of a handbook which mainstream staff responsible for training and continuing professional development can use in their programmes working alongside specialist staff from their organisation’s disability services but without having to rely too much on them. The project involved devising and delivering sessions free of charge with a small number of interested partner institutions, working with staff both from learning and teaching development and specialist disability services. Following feedback and evaluation, it was planned for these colleagues to organise and deliver sessions themselves where I acted as observer and contributed to further critical reflection which was used when compiling the final version of the handbook. A final stage involved dissemination at a number of regional events prior to circulating the handbook.
