ABSTRACT
In classical theory, masculinity and femininity refers to the representation of the difference between the sexes centred on the recognition of ‘castration’. Femininity is grounded in the representation of a lack. The questioning of phallic monism has lead to a consideration of the role of the girl’s body schemata on her psychic apparatus.
