ABSTRACT

Why do we do what we do with our time? We argue here that the answer depends, at least in part, on what we will call a person's timestyle. By timestyle, we refer to how an individual perceives, plans, and thinks about time. While one person might see a Saturday afternoon as a perfect time to socialize, someone else might perceive the same chunk of time as an ideal opportunity to be alone. One individual might think of this block of time as highly suited for many carefully planned activities, while another might prefer to let events unfold very spontaneously (Bergadaá 1990).
