ABSTRACT

Though her article predates the Education Reform Act, Jane Needham contributes the voice of a practising classroom teacher to discussion of the issues already raised in the ‘Classroom’ part of this book. Her provision is thoughtful‚ thorough, and has been carefully matched to the needs of the children in her class. How do you feel it articulates with HMI’s view of ‘good practice’ in Chapter 15? Do Ellen Yeo’s arguments, from Chapter 16, strike home here? What do you think actual evidence of Jane Needham’s classroom, such as that reviewed by Alexander in Chapter 18, would reveal?
