ABSTRACT
As a technical consultant with China’s national track and field team from 1984 until 1986, the author was able to visit a number of research institutes of sports science. Extracts contain comments that were recorded during this period. First of all, a description is given of the sports science system. At the apex of the pyramid of research institutes are the National Research Institute of Sports Science and the National Research Institute of Sports Medicine, both based in Beijing.
