ABSTRACT

French violinist, born in Bordeaux. He took first prize at the Paris Conservatory at age 16, and began to concertize extensively while in his teens. In 1898 he gave 54 recitals in Paris, then played through Europe, and toured in America in 1903. Highly regarded as a soloist, he was perhaps even more noteworthy in chamber music, particularly in the famous trio he formed in 1904 with Alfred Cortot and Pablo Casals. He had another fine collaborator in pianist Marguerite Long. Thibaud’s long career ended in an airplane crash in the French Alps.
