ABSTRACT

Employment is a major source of stress for many adults. A recent study conducted on behalf of the American Psychological Association found that 70 per cent of surveyed Americans perceived work to be a “significant” or “very significant” cause of stress (American Psychological Association, 2010). When work is perceived to be stressful it results in strain reactions at the physiological, affective, cognitive, and behavioral level. To reduce these strain reactions and to protect health and well-being in the long run, some relief and recovery from the stressful experiences is needed.
