ABSTRACT

A group of researchers visited a ‘typical’ secondary mainstream secondary school in England (1,100 pupils aged 11–18). The purpose was to examine physical education (PE) teachers’ professional development needs and also collect some evidence on pupils’ experiences of PE. Following the visit, the researchers intended to use the evidence to design and deliver a new Continuing Professional Development (CPD) intervention specifically for this school, and to measure the impact of the personalised, school-based approach it involved. As part of the project, researchers asked pupils to complete learning blogs at different points in time (before and after the CPD intervention) to capture any changes in their perspectives on or engagement in PE lessons.
