ABSTRACT
The first section of this chapter sets out briefly the arrangements and significant differences within them for testing in England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland in 1993-4. It is important to specify the date since changes in some countries are frequent events. The second section takes three themes, of teachers’ assessment, test and moderation, and compares them across the countries and the third section deals with some of the issues emerging.
