ABSTRACT

Reality Capture enables nuanced observational understanding of human behavior and space. The collaboration resulted in the creation of the NavADAPT LAB, a mobile prototyping laboratory for the development of adaptive living environments that better serve the needs of populations with physical and mental disabilities. In an effort to capitalize on what is afforded through the digital workflow, NavADAPT LAB was developed as a mechanism for enhancing the ability of designers, end users, stakeholders, and the general public to understand issues relevant to the environmental needs of disabled populations in housing. Motion-sensing devices embedded within the cavity of NavADAPT LAB capture all physical movement and action. Capture-based behavioral analysis conducted during prototyping with the NavADAPT LAB revealed that a “command center” organizational structure was achievable, reducing the need to move by increasing the reachability of all functional elements in a given area.
