ABSTRACT

This chapter starts with the proposition that reason has unfortunately been denigrated to instrumental reason, where wealth and power dominate human beings. It claims that it is through education that human beings get to be “civilized”. The absence of authentic education destroys the accumulated wisdom of humanity. The chapter looks into the domain of ideology and Utopia, which then further articulates how authentic education, the common good and public interest of society are realized along with the development of a de-alienated humanity. Besides Marx, thinkers like Levinas, Satchidananda Murty and Daya Krishna are mobilized to articulate the contours of post-colonial societies.
