ABSTRACT
This chapter will examine the relationship between material culture remains and certain biblical texts as evidence for ethnic identity in ancient Israel. It will take the archaeological data as the primary evidence, thus creating a positive portrait, beyond the notion of ethnicity as a “modern construct.”
