ABSTRACT

At this special high school - for students who are 14-22 years old with severe disabilities - the parents of a 15-year-old ninth grader would like for him to be employed with supports. After an educational motor assessment, the adapted physical educator creates a fitness program with the special education teacher focused on the fitness and communication the student will need in his prospective job. The team decides to additionally assign a 1:1 paraprofessional to work alongside the student. With the outcome yet to be determined, the APE continues to work to improve the student’s strength and stamina in preparation for his community-based instruction plan.
