ABSTRACT

The obstacles that arise in educational research are often unavoidable, independent of experience, established relationships, or familiarity with the research process. Graduate students, novice researchers, and veteran scholars alike grapple with the unanticipated dilemmas and challenges of teacher research. This chapter attempts to provide an honest counternarrative to the simplified, linear view of research that is often presented. The authors present a narrative that highlights the reality of conducting classroom-based research, illustrating the many disruptions that transpired during data collection processes, demonstrating how they were able to navigate and overcome these obstacles, and describing the lessons that they learned from these experiences.
