ABSTRACT

All parents can help their children learn. It doesn’t matter how well educated you are or how much money you have, how parents behave is what is important at this critical stage of your child’s development. Research shows that parents who are warm and attentive to their children are those who prepare them best for a life of learning.

It’s good to read with children and to talk to them about the world around them and there is lots of evidence that children learn a huge amount through play. But leaving preschool children to play on their own and find things out for themselves is no longer believed to work well. They need some adult guidance.

Parents shouldn’t worry too much about the formal side of education. Children need to feel emotionally, socially and physically secure if they are to become good learners. Couple this with a preschool with teachers who form strong bonds with children and you are offering them a flying start in life.
