ABSTRACT

This introduction presents an overview of the key concepts discussed in the subsequent chapters of this book. The book discusses a study in a primary school where there had been concern about measuring the impact of literacy and numeracy interventions on pupil achievement. It describes the trial of three new strategies to reduce anxiety and improve behaviour within a Year 6 class. The book shows how school feedback practice was developed to improve learning for pupils with Special Educational Need (SEN). It explores the deployment of teaching assistants in a school with a high number of children identified as having SEN. The book deals with recommendations for ways in which the new model could be further developed. It presents a case study of three primary school classes that took part in a three-week daily 10-minute run around the school grounds, with the aim of providing an outlet for active behaviour and create a calmer classroom learning environment afterwards.
