ABSTRACT

The majority of pupils are from a white British background and the proportion of children with a disability or special educational needs is above average. There are 35 children on the special educational needs and disabilities register and these children have a range of difficulties that include autism, Down syndrome, dyslexia and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). The National Health Service states that people with ADHD often have difficulties with attention, which can cause them to become easily distracted and affect their ability to concentrate on tasks. I. Singh identified that children with ADHD often complained of being ‘wound up’ by other children. Teachers and other staff in the school need to be aware of the traits of children with ADHD and able to adapt their practice to suit individual’s learning styles. Two out of the three teachers also noticed a specific improvement in the concentration of children with ADHD and/or behavioural difficulties in their class.
