ABSTRACT

The writer narrates how her literacy development is informed by the linkage between images and languages. She undergoes the process from being a viewer of images to being a thinker of images and, finally, to being a creator of images. Her understanding of images also moves from concreteness to abstraction with the use of metaphorical thought. It is through this process that she advanced in her literacy not only as a writer in her first language of Chinese but also as in her second language of English. She proceeds to consider how she might adapt what she has experienced as a writer into her teaching of writing. She considers images as good resources in writing instruction.
