ABSTRACT

Contemporary music technology offers the possibility for an individual not only to write their own music, but also to record it, produce it, and share it. Curiosity is vital to a learner-centered digital music classroom. As students become aware of the possibilities, they become more curious. The important thing is that the choice is theirs and they can make it based on their own interests and skills. Music technology and production classes are very technical by nature, so there are many concepts more effectively learned through direct instruction. The vast majority of music they hear on a daily basis is produced, polished, and virtually perfect from a technical standpoint. Teacher may ask students to critically listen to their own music to identify how loops change from one section of the song to another. The less structured jam session allows students who are already confident in certain abilities to either further practice those abilities or wander into new territory.
