ABSTRACT

Today’s audiences have become both consumers and producers of media content. As they leave digital footprints of their engagement and behavior with online media, professionals in media analytics have an opportunity to analyze them to create better products and offer better services. Among many computer languages, R has become popular for big data analysis. R is a free programming language for statistical computing and graphics. This chapter introduces novice R users to R basics, including installation and datasets, and provides instruction for descriptive statistics; and its visualization, including histograms, and boxplots, column and bar and charts, scatter plots, and line charts.
