ABSTRACT

The aim of this chapter is to summarize the literature on occupational stress, health, and well-being research in Portugal in order to provide the reader with a broad and comprehensive background for understanding the current state of knowledge in this area of research in this country. A qualitative systematic review of literature on occupational stress, health, and psychological well-being conducted in Portugal will be carried out. A comprehensive literature search will be conducted on PubMed, Scopus, and the Web of Science to identify relevant published sources prior to 2019. The search terms “occupational stress in Portugal”, “occupational health in Portugal”, and “occupational well-being in Portugal” will be used, and empirical studies will be selected. The following items will be extracted from the original articles: sample characteristics (e.g., size, occupation); methodology (e.g., qualitative/quantitative, cross-sectional, longitudinal, intervention); stress, health, and well-being indicators and measures; and aims of the study. This systematic analysis revealed evidence of the influence of different personal and contextual factors on occupational stress, health, and well-being in Portugal.
