ABSTRACT

This chapter focuses on the current status of work stress research in various countries that are economically, socially, politically, and technologically different. It argues that stress is still identified and acknowledged as a significant issue in all countries. Countries face unique climate and cultural stressors - such as heat stress, the role of the state, the role of national culture, the proportion and state of workers in the non-regulatory sector, weak legislation to protect worker rights, power harassment, the presence of social media, and the role of religion. International research collaborations can play a critical role in helping researchers develop new models. A prominent view found across national literature is that stress is harmful, so there has been an extensive examination of the negative side of stress compared to the positive effects of stress on the workforce.
