ABSTRACT

The aim of the chapter is to provide a systematic review of the Brazilian literature on work stress over the last decade, using the PRISMA method. The search was done using Scielo Brasil, a Brazilian database that gathers the full articles published in the most peer-reviewed journals in Brazil. The initial search yielded 235 publications. Therefore, after the exclusions, the final literature review was based on a total of 118 publications. The results showed the prevalence of Western theories, models, and instruments in the context of Brazilian research. However, the social, cultural, and economic contexts in Brazil are very different from Western countries. It is interesting that future research on work stress in Brazil more explicitly considers more the specific conditions of the workplaces in the country. Furthermore, it should evolve toward more powerful methodological procedures, as well as more sophisticated analysis strategies, in order to provide a more holistic understanding of work stress in Brazil.
