ABSTRACT

In Creating the Future of Faculty Development, Mary Deane Sorcinelli, Ann Austin, Pamela Eddy, and Andrea Beach offer five challenges faculty developers face amid changes in U.S. higher education. In our chapter, we draw attention to one of these challenges: “Faculty roles: Balancing multiple roles and learning new roles” (4). We highlight how the University of North Georgia’s Center for Teaching, Learning, and Leadership (CTLL), through two different faculty Academies, equips faculty for responding to an increased emphasis on scholarship in the wake of system-level university shifts and argue for the central place centers for teaching should hold for faculty adjusting to system- or university-level change.
