ABSTRACT

This chapter emerges from a long-running dialogue we’ve been having, in which our different institutional positions help us illuminate the problem and think productively together about how to work through it. Erin has worked with Title IX issues through her service on the university’s Sexual Misconduct Task Force and chairing the Title IX Faculty Advocacy Committee (which works with the office that oversees Title IX investigations) but is also a strong union supporter. Serving as a representative and former grievance officer for the faculty union, Seth has represented male faculty alleged to have sexually harassed/discriminated against women; however, he regularly advocates for equality in union and non-union structures. These overlapping-but-sometimes-contrary positions offer a kaleidoscopic view of the structural complications.
