ABSTRACT
Economies across Asia continue to thrive, spurring the progress and significance of leading universities. Such development, in turn, creates both need and opportunity to study the development of higher education. Though Asia is now the world’s largest region for higher education, relatively little is known about the sector and its broader socioeconomic contributions. Chapter 1 opens this book’s inquiry into leading Asian higher education institutions. It starts by introducing the Asian Universities Alliance (AUA), the supranational frame which underpins the book. Next, it discusses the book’s concentration on various forms of education innovation. Finally, the structure and chapters are introduced.
