ABSTRACT

Higher education has been considered as a goal, and an approach to achieving, global Sustainable Development Goals. Chapter 6 investigates and visualizes current commitment and practice in AUA member universities that promote sustainability in Asia. First, the chapter reviews strategies and practices of AUA member universities that engage with and contribute to sustainable development, based on their responses to our questionnaire in August and September 2018. The chapter then gives a detailed analysis of policies and practices of The University of Tokyo as a case study. Chapter 6 concludes by summarizing prospects and challenges for promoting innovative approaches in higher education that support sustainable development in Asia. It also proposes a framework and a roadmap for university partnerships that can further promote higher education’s contribution to sustainable development in Asia
