ABSTRACT

Higher education is a dynamic and rapidly changing landscape. With a rushing tide of societal changes imposed by the Fourth Industrial Revolution, Chapter 7 explores some resulting developments and examines what Asian universities are doing and ought to be doing to adapt to these impeding changes, at the institutional, societal, and international levels. A number of case studies are presented as illustrations of the transformations four leading AUA member universities have embarked on to keep up with these disruptive changes. We also present some insights regarding foresight planning and contemporary developments contributed by other AUA member universities as part of their future scanning. These insights are discussed to provide a further glimpse into the strategic intentions of these universities. A number of multiple-aspect recommendations are proposed for consideration by Asian higher education institutions which we think are necessary for surviving and thriving.
